About the association

About us

The Albanian Community of Sisak-Moslavina County was established in 2004 with a clear mission – to preserve the language, culture, and identity of Albanians in Croatia. From the very beginning, our work has been based on the idea of unity and connection, because we are not just a cultural association; we are a shared home: a place of identity, dialogue, and bridges between generations.

Through various cultural, educational, and social activities, we nurture a rich tradition, promote the Albanian language and customs, and pass on our heritage to younger generations. We pay special attention to strengthening cooperation with the local community and institutions, ensuring that our contribution to social and cultural life is clearly recognized and valued.

Our goal is for every member to feel acknowledged, respected, and connected – to collectively build a sense of belonging and pride. We aim to be the voice of Albanians in Croatia, a voice that is visible, respected, and actively contributes to the multicultural richness of our country.

Albanians in Sisak-Moslavina County have left a deep mark – from the first gatherings in the early 2000s to today, when young people, students, athletes, entrepreneurs, and artists continue to build identity and preserve tradition. Our local story is just as important as global achievements: it shows that every member of the community is part of the mosaic of our identity.

In memoriam to the Founder – Agim Gjidoda

Agim Gjidoda (1960 – 2025) was the founder and president of the Albanian Community of Sisak-Moslavina County. Born in Kosovo, his life path brought him to Croatia, where through entrepreneurship and social engagement he became one of the key organizers and representatives of the Albanian minority.

As president of ZASMŽ, he worked to preserve the language, culture, and identity of Albanians, while building bridges with Croatian institutions and other minority communities. He also served as vice president of the Union of Albanians in the Republic of Croatia, actively connecting the local community with the diaspora.

His work continued a family tradition devoted to education, culture, and national identity.

"Unity is the strength of our identity."

Agim Gjidoda passed away in 2025. He left behind not only the association but also memories of a man who was warm, approachable, and always ready to help others. He is remembered for his strength, determination, and vision – a man who knew how to lead others, set clear goals, and seek the best from himself and those around him. Within the community, generations remembered him – some as a president, others as a friend, and for his family, he was a pillar and an example of perseverance.
